Mizoram security forces seize contraband worth Rs 17.89 crore
Security forces in Mizoram's Champhai district have seized a massive consignment of contraband valued at approximately Rs 17.89 crore. The joint operation involved the Assam Rifles, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), and the Mizoram Police.
The seizure included 125,680 kg of areca nuts and 25,440 kg of poppy seeds. Officials noted that Champhai is a significant location along the India-Myanmar border and serves as a frequent route for illegal trafficking from Myanmar.
In separate intelligence-led operations, security forces also intercepted narcotics in other areas. In the Saitual district, a suspect was apprehended with 2.285 kg of methamphetamine tablets worth an estimated Rs 1.83 crore. Additionally, an operation at Iron Gate near Zokhawthar resulted in the recovery of 28 grams of heroin valued at Rs 5.6 lakh.
