MKCG Medical College reports rare birth of two-headed infant
A rare birth involving conjoined twins has been reported at the MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, Odisha. A woman from the Kandhamal district delivered a baby with two heads and one body.
The newborn, which reportedly has a single heart, has been admitted to the hospital’s Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU). A medical team of pediatricians and specialists is closely monitoring vital signs, including respiration and heart rate, to assess the infant’s stability.
Medical professionals have identified the condition as potentially being craniopagus, an extremely rare congenital abnormality. Due to the medical complexity of the case, doctors are conducting a comprehensive health assessment to understand the connection of skulls, brains, and blood vessels. No official information regarding potential surgical separation has been released at this time.
