The city of Málaga and its municipal waste operator LIMASAM are implementing major upgrades to cut reliance on landfills. Investments include modernising the Los Ruices environmental centre, adding new organic‑waste treatment facilities and expanding selective‑collection networks, all aimed at boosting recycling rates and fostering a circular economy.

Valoriza, a Spanish waste‑valorisation firm, advocates an integrated approach that turns residual waste into resources and energy. The company stresses source‑separation as the most effective way to preserve material quality, while using energy recovery for fractions that cannot be recycled.
