Dominican Republic advances to Davis Cup World Group I

The Dominican Republic tennis team has secured promotion to the Davis Cup World Group I after defeating Egypt 3-1. The competition took place at the Centro Español de Santiago.

The series began with a strong performance on Friday, as Roberto Cid and Nick Hardt won their respective singles matches against Amr Elsayed and Karim Mabrouk. Although the Dominican doubles pair, Peter Bertran and Nick Hardt, lost their match to Egypt's Omar Kandil and Karim Mabrouk, the team maintained their advantage.

Nick Hardt ultimately clinched the victory for the Dominican Republic by defeating Omar Kandil with a score of 6-2 and 6-1. The team, captained by Jhonny Berrido, is now scheduled to compete in World Group I in February 2027.

Persio Maldonado, president of the Dominican Tennis Federation (Fedotenis), noted the significance of hosting such international events in the Cibao region to decentralize major competitions from the capital.
