Dominican Republic Davis Cup promotion and upcoming play-off

Overview

The Dominican Republic national tennis team secured promotion to the Davis Cup World Group I after defeating Egypt 3-1 at the Centro Español in Santiago de los Caballeros. Singles victories by Roberto Cid and Nick Hardt provided the foundation for the win, with Hardt clinching the decisive match against Omar Kandil. Persio Maldonado, president of the Dominican Tennis Federation (Fedotenis), highlighted the importance of hosting international events in the Cibao region to decentralize major competitions from the capital.

Following this victory, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) conducted a draw in London for the World Group I play-offs. The Dominican Republic, ranked 62nd, is scheduled to face Poland, ranked 31st, in a play-off match in February 2027. Poland will host the encounter, with specific dates and court surfaces expected to be announced by mid-November. The winner of this tie will advance to compete for a spot in the Davis Cup Finals in September, while the loser will remain in Group II.
