Yordan Alvarez pursues MLB Triple Crown amid AL East competition
Houston Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez is pursuing a Triple Crown, currently leading the American League in batting average (.320), home runs (36), and RBIs (90). If he maintains these leads, he will be the first player to achieve the feat since Miguel Cabrera in 2012.
Alvarez faces significant competition from American League East players. In the batting average race, Tampa Bay’s Chandler Simpson (.310) and Yandy Díaz (.306) are the primary challengers. The home run race is closely contested by Tampa Bay’s Junior Caminero, who has 35, and New York Yankees' Ben Rice with 34. In RBIs, Baltimore’s Pete Alonso holds 85, followed by Caminero with 83.
Additionally, Cuban players are showing historic dominance in the American League runs scored category. Miguel Vargas leads the league with 88 runs, followed by Alvarez with 86 and Randy Arozarena with 84. Five Cuban or Cuban-descended players currently rank among the top ten run scorers in the league.
