MMH 2026 mining fair in Seville focuses on European mineral security
The MMH 2026 international mining fair in Seville brought together companies, researchers, and administrators to address the challenges of securing mineral supplies for a digitalized economy. A central theme of the event was the necessity of collaboration to ensure efficient, safe, and sustainable mining practices.
Discussions focused on Europe's goal to reduce dependence on third countries by securing access to critical raw materials essential for industrial, energy, and technological development. Experts discussed meeting European Union targets for 2030, which mandate that at least 10% of extraction, 25% of processing, and 40% of recycling needs be met within European territory.
To achieve these objectives, participants emphasized the importance of strengthening the industry, building trust, and forming international alliances to create more resilient supply chains. Commissioner Fernando Araúz de Robles highlighted the need for institutional support and business momentum to translate these resources into viable projects.
