Münch Energie inaugurates Germany’s largest battery storage cluster

Münch Energie and the Minister-President of Saxony-Anhalt, Sven Schulze, have officially inaugurated Germany’s largest operational battery storage cluster near Leuna/Krumpa. The facility features a power output of 250 megawatts and an initial storage capacity of approximately 500 megawatt-hours, with plans to expand to 800 megawatt-hours later this year.

The storage cluster is designed to stabilize the power grid by capturing surplus energy from renewable sources, such as wind and solar, and making it available when demand is high. This infrastructure aims to mitigate extreme price fluctuations in the energy market caused by the intermittent nature of renewables and the reliance on fossil fuel providers during peak times.

Mario Münch, founder of Münch Energie, stated that the project aims to make the Leipzig/Halle region a competitive location for growth by providing cheap, secure, and green energy. Minister-President Schulze noted that such large-scale storage is key to ensuring supply security and making the energy transition a driver for regional economic value and innovation.
