Ceuta health crisis: Minister denies collapse amid migration influx

Health Minister Mónica García visited Ceuta to assess the sanitary situation following a mass migration influx from Morocco. While García denied a healthcare collapse, she acknowledged a moderate epidemiological risk due to overcrowding and the resulting sanitary conditions. She reported that approximately 5,800 migrants have been treated in the last fifteen days, with 3,500 receiving primary care and 2,300 in the hospital.

Medical professionals at the Ceuta University Hospital have challenged the government's narrative of normalcy. Doctors reported treating patients with syphilis, gonorrhea, and tuberculosis, and noted one death with symptoms consistent with typhoid fever. The hospital has activated its emergency disaster wing to manage the crisis.

The People's Party (PP) has criticized the government's response, with leaders calling for the resignation of Minister García and accusing Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez of inaction. PP leader Alberto Núñez Feijóo described the situation as a quadruple crisis involving migration, public health, public order, and national security.
