MNS activist arrested for removing PM Modi's photo in Pune

Pune police have arrested MNS activist Ashish Sable in connection with the forced removal of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s photograph from a government institution. The incident occurred at the Government Polytechnic College in Ganeshkhind, Pune.

The controversy began when Amit Thackeray, president of the Maharashtra Navnirman Vidyarthi Sena (MNVS) and son of MNS leader Raj Thackeray, visited the campus to inspect student facilities. During the visit, Thackeray objected to the Prime Minister’s portrait being displayed on the same level as revered historical figures Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Dr. B.R. Ambedkar. Following this objection, MNS workers reportedly removed the photograph despite opposition from college administration.

An FIR has been filed against Amit Thackeray and approximately 20 to 25 other activists. The charges include unlawful assembly, criminal trespass, obstructing a public servant from performing their duties, and criminal intimidation under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Maharashtra Police Act. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage and witness statements to identify all individuals involved.
