MOBI transport system expands in Quintana Roo
The Quintana Roo state government is implementing a phased modernization of public transportation through the Sistema de Movilidad del Bienestar Quintanarroense (MOBI). In Cancún, the addition of 100 new units to the Benito Juárez municipality has sparked debate regarding fare costs and the future of traditional transport.
MOBI routes utilize electronic payments via official cards, QR codes, or contactless bank cards, with urban fares set at 15 pesos and 18 pesos for the Hotel Zone. This contrasts with traditional routes, which charge 10 pesos in urban areas and 12 pesos in tourist zones. The transition is gradual, allowing traditional vans and combis to coexist with the new electronic routes.
In Chetumal, the Instituto de Movilidad del Estado de Quintana Roo (Imoveqroo) announced special MOBI services for the Expofer Chetumal 2026 event. Additionally, route adjustments are being made to the Calderitas route to better serve local merchants at the old market.
