MOBI transport system launches Route 17 in Cancún

The MOBI (Movilidad del Bienestar Quintanarroense) system has launched its Route 17 Leona Vicario in Cancún. Governor Mara Lezama Espinosa announced that service will be free until Monday, October 26. The 44.05-kilometer route serves 99 neighborhoods, potentially benefiting over 242,800 people by connecting northern Cancún with the city center and Plaza Las Américas.

Starting Tuesday, October 27, the system will implement electronic payments. The standard fare structure includes 15 pesos for the first trip, 7.50 pesos for the second, and the third trip being free, provided they occur within three hours. Students and seniors with social tariffs will receive discounted rates, while individuals with permanent disabilities will maintain free access.

Despite the launch, the first day of operations faced criticism from users. Reports emerged of drivers refusing to allow passengers to board with bicycles, with some commuters alleging that drivers accelerated or closed doors abruptly when cyclists attempted to use designated stops. Users have called for official clarification on protocols to ensure the system remains inclusive for cyclists and people with reduced mobility.
