Mobile Health Units Expand Free Services Across Bahia, Brazil
The non‑governmental organization Instituto Américas Amigas deployed a mobile unit in Feira de Santana on 28 July to provide free mammograms. All 480 available slots were claimed after more than 700 women registered, and the team plans to perform about 80 examinations per day before moving the unit to Alagoinhas. A similar women's‑health caravan operated in Ilhéus, extending the outreach to additional communities.
In the same month, the private non‑profit Instituto de Saúde e Proteção Social (ISPS) held a health mutirão in the Rômulo Campos district of Itiúba on 26 July. Coordinated by Simone Reis, the event offered eye exams, dental care, pediatric consultations, ECGs and ultrasounds, assisting roughly 300 residents and arranging follow‑up treatment for those with complex conditions. These initiatives aim to bring specialized medical care to vulnerable populations throughout Bahia's seasonal health program.
