Mochovce Nuclear Power Plant activation brings energy self-sufficiency to Slovakia

The fourth block of the Mochovce Nuclear Power Plant has begun supplying electricity to the grid following its connection on October 15. This development has brought Slovakia to a state of energy self-sufficiency in electricity production.

Prime Minister Robert Fico stated that the country is positioned to become an energy exporter by 2027, with the potential to send 400 to 500 megawatts to international markets. He noted that Slovakia's energy infrastructure is bolstered by two nuclear plants and the Gabčíkovo hydroelectric plant.

Minister of Economy Denisa Saková highlighted that Slovakia possesses one of the cleanest energy mixes globally, with approximately 85 percent of its energy derived from decarbonized sources. She emphasized that the nation is strategically connected to Poland, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Ukraine. The government is currently seeking recognition from the European Union to utilize cohesion policy resources to support energy prices for domestic industry and households.
