Modena officials report 23 sites undergoing environmental monitoring

Modena officials have reported that 23 sites within the municipality are currently undergoing environmental remediation or monitoring processes. According to Environment Councilor Vittorio Molinari, 21 of these sites are listed by Arpae, while two additional sites—the former Acciaierie on via Paolo Ferrari and the former Acciaierie Corni on via delle Suore—are under direct municipal jurisdiction.

Regarding public health, data from the Ausl epidemiological service indicates that the overall incidence of tumors in Modena is slightly lower than the provincial average. For the five-year period between 2020 and 2024, officials stated there was ‘no excess mortality for tumor pathologies compared to the provincial average.’

Monitoring plans for groundwater will continue until the formal conclusion of remediation or safety procedures. The regional registry of sites undergoing remediation is continuously updated by Arpae and local municipalities.
