Modena USL and Carpi launch mosquito‑prevention guide for summer child centers

The public‑health service of Modena (USL) and the Carpi municipal administration released a pamphlet aimed at reducing mosquito and insect nuisance in summer child‑care centres. The guide outlines simple, routine actions such as regularly emptying trays, kiddie pools and containers, keeping drains clear, maintaining green areas, and applying larvicides correctly. It advises limited use of adulticide insecticides, favouring approved skin repellents appropriate for children’s ages and encouraging the use of light‑coloured, covering clothing.

Alessandra Fantuzzi, director of the USL public‑health service, emphasised that children’s natural curiosity makes them effective messengers for hygiene habits: “Children are ‘biofili’, they love nature and can help spread simple protective behaviours without creating fear.” The pamphlet also suggests involving children in weekly checks of outdoor spaces, creating drawings or videos on prevention actions, and engaging local community groups as allies in the effort. The overall aim is to protect the health of children and elderly visitors while preserving environmental safety.
