Italy healthcare updates: social prescribing and new staffing plans
Various regional healthcare initiatives and staffing plans are being implemented across Italy. In the CN2 area, Asl CN2 has launched the PONTE project, which introduces “social prescribing.” This model allows healthcare professionals, including family nurses and psychologists, to prescribe community-based activities—such as group walks or cultural workshops—to address social isolation and sedentary lifestyles alongside clinical treatments.
In Sicily, Regional Health Councilor Marcello Caruso announced a plan to hire approximately 2,700 permanent staff members. Supported by 140 million euros, the initiative aims to staff 146 community houses and 39 community hospitals to strengthen local healthcare networks.
In Modica Alta, local council groups have proposed a reorganization of the local health facility to combat medical staff shortages. They suggest transforming the site into a functional hub connected to the Modica Community House to ensure continuous medical assistance and emergency services.
Additionally, a medical meeting is scheduled in Monteriggioni to discuss integrated therapeutic pathways for patients with cardio-nephro-metabolic syndrome, focusing on improving the transition between hospital and territorial care.
