Moeve starts Onuba construction, first phase of Spain's Valle Andaluz hydrogen project

Moeve announced that construction of the Onuba plant will begin on 17 September in Palos de la Frontera, Huelva. The first phase of the Valle Andaluz del Hidrógeno Verde will feature a 300 MW electrolyser capacity, with an option to add 105 MW, and is expected to produce about 45 000 tonnes of green hydrogen per year, cutting roughly 250 000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions.

The phase is funded with more than €1 billion of private investment, complemented by €263 million of public money from Spain’s Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan. The overall project aims for a total investment of around €3 billion, two production sites (Palos de la Frontera and San Roque), a combined electrolyser capacity of 2 GW and an annual output of up to 300 000 tonnes of hydrogen. It is projected to create about 10 000 jobs, including roughly 1 000 direct positions. Moeve holds a 51 % stake, with Masdar and Enalter (majority‑owned by Enagás Renovable) participating as partners.
