Mohamed Coulibaly found dead amid NFL investment scam allegations
Mohamed Coulibaly, 24, was found dead in a swimming pool at a New Jersey residence in Harrison Township on July 31. His death occurred following a welfare check requested by family members concerned for his well-being. Authorities, including the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office, are investigating the circumstances of his death.
Coulibaly was the subject of recent allegations involving a multimillion-dollar investment scheme that reportedly targeted professional athletes, including current and former NFL players. According to investigative reports, the scheme utilized Shopify-powered e-commerce stores. Investors were allegedly shown falsified sales figures that were manually entered into the backend of the websites to create the illusion of thriving businesses.
Several athletes were reportedly impacted, with three former NFL players losing more than $1 million combined. Former New York Giants linebacker Tae Crowder stated he personally invested $500,000 after being introduced to Coulibaly through a mutual connection. While Coulibaly had previously denied the allegations, claiming they stemmed from technical misunderstandings, he had not faced criminal charges related to the scheme prior to his death.
