Morocco King Mohammed VI outlines economic and migration strategies

In a speech to the Moroccan Parliament marking the opening of the 12th Legislature, King Mohammed VI outlined a strategic vision to transform Morocco into an emerging economic power. The monarch emphasized the need for a new generation of national strategies focusing on water, energy, and food security, as well as industrial development, the digital economy, and artificial intelligence.

The King called for greater economic inclusion for youth and urged the national private sector to become a more proactive strategic actor through increased investment and innovation. He also addressed domestic governance, criticizing delays in the implementation of decentralization and demanding an effective transfer of resources and powers from the central government to regional authorities.

On the international stage, the King addressed migration cooperation, stating that the current model has reached its limits. He specifically noted that certain Spanish judicial decisions and legal provisions hinder the repatriation of minors and asylum seekers, which in turn benefits criminal networks. He asserted that Morocco’s partnerships, including those with Spain, are sovereign choices that must not be subject to pressure, threats, or blackmail. To address these challenges, Morocco intends to present partners with a strategic document focused on co-development, economic competitiveness, and regional stability.
