Mohammad Rizwan challenges NCCIA gambling probe
Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Rizwan has responded to an inquiry by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) regarding alleged links to illegal betting and gambling websites. In his response, Rizwan questioned the basis of the investigation and requested full details of the allegations against him.
Rizwan has also sought clarity from the International Cricket Council (ICC) Anti-Corruption Unit regarding standard procedures for corruption investigations. He noted that under ICC anti-corruption laws, the ICC's own unit typically conducts inquiries and keeps national boards informed. He questioned why the NCCIA is conducting the probe instead of the ICC ACU, given his status as an active international cricketer.
The Lahore High Court recently dismissed a writ petition filed by Rizwan that challenged the NCCIA's jurisdiction over the matter. The investigation follows a period of scrutiny for several players, including Imam-ul-Haq and Salman Ali Agha, after Pakistan's recent tour of England. Rizwan has maintained his integrity, citing a career of over 10 years without previous allegations of illegal practices.
