Pakistan cricket leak and gambling probe update

Overview

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) in Lahore is conducting an inquiry into Mohammad Rizwan and Imam-ul-Haq regarding alleged leaks of confidential dressing room information and links to online betting and gambling following the team’s Test series against England. The probe includes forensic analysis of mobile phones and scrutiny of financial transactions, social media history, property holdings, and international travel records.

Following the seizure of Rizwan’s mobile phone at Lord’s on August 31, the player has formally requested the NCCIA to return the device, which has been in agency custody for approximately four weeks. Rizwan stated he was initially told the phone would be returned within three hours and noted that while he was not legally obligated to hand it over in the UK, he did so to demonstrate his intent to cooperate. He has also requested written clarification regarding the nature of the investigation.

On October 2, Rizwan appeared at the NCCIA office in Lahore for questioning and a forensic examination of the mobile phone. He spent approximately three and a half hours cooperating with a four-member team of officials. Upon leaving, Rizwan maintained a light-hearted demeanor, making jokes to reporters about being hungry. In response to the ongoing matter, former Pakistan captain Younis Khan has urged the public to remain patient and wait for the inquiry to conclude before drawing any conclusions.
