Mohammad Rizwan's petition against NCCIA probe dismissed by Lahore High Court

The Lahore High Court has dismissed a petition filed by Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Rizwan challenging summons issued by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). The agency is conducting an inquiry into allegations of online betting and gambling within Pakistan cricket, following the national team’s recent Test series in England.

Chief Justice Aalia Neelum directed Rizwan to respond to the agency’s notices rather than seeking court intervention. Rizwan’s legal counsel argued that the NCCIA lacked jurisdiction and questioned the nature of the investigation, noting that the International Cricket Council’s Anti-Corruption Unit is the appropriate body for such matters. The defense also raised concerns regarding the confiscation of Rizwan’s mobile phone during the England tour.

The NCCIA has issued extensive questionnaires to Rizwan and teammate Imam-ul-Haq, seeking details on social media history, financial transactions, property holdings, and international travel over several years. Forensic examinations of the players' mobile phones are currently underway. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to decide on potential disciplinary actions once the NCCIA submits its final findings.
