Mohammad Rizwan seeks return of phone and investigation details from NCCIA

Pakistani cricketer Mohammad Rizwan has requested the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) to return his mobile phone and provide written clarification regarding the nature of an ongoing investigation. The device was seized in England on August 31, following a Test match at Lord’s, under the assurance it would be returned within three hours. However, the phone has remained in agency custody for approximately four weeks.

This development follows a Lahore High Court ruling that dismissed Rizwan’s petition challenging the NCCIA’s jurisdiction. While the court directed Rizwan to cooperate with the agency, it also instructed the NCCIA to avoid subjecting him to harassment or unnecessary inconvenience and noted he could seek legal recourse to recover seized items. Rizwan stated in his correspondence that the agency has not yet contacted him to comply with these court directions.

In a separate development, Rizwan has reportedly received a second notice from the NCCIA, summoning him to the agency’s Lahore office on October 2 for a forensic examination of the mobile phone. Rizwan has indicated he intends to seek specific details regarding the allegations against him during this appearance.
