Mohammed Kudus makes first Tottenham start in Liverpool defeat
Mohammed Kudus made his first start for Tottenham Hotspur since January during a 3-1 Carabao Cup defeat to Liverpool at Anfield. After being eased back into fitness following a serious quad injury, the Ghana international played 75 minutes before being replaced by Sávio.
Kudus' performance was statistically modest, recording three shots with one on target and an expected goals (xG) figure of 0.58, though he failed to score. He completed 15 of 20 passes and lost possession eight times during the match.
Ahead of the game, head coach Roberto De Zerbi had indicated that Kudus was physically ready to return to the starting lineup. De Zerbi also noted that James Maddison would not be fit enough to start the match, as the club's medical department continues to manage the fitness of key players including Maddison and Dominic Solanke.
