Mohan Bhagwat addresses Hindu identity and RSS mission in London

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat addressed a civilisational dialogue in London as part of the organization’s centenary outreach. During the event, titled ‘Celebration of Oneness’, Bhagwat defined Hindu identity as a cultural and civilisational concept rather than a strictly religious one. He argued that ‘Hindu Rashtra’ is not a conventional nation-state but a concept where diversity is viewed as a natural expression of an underlying unity.

Bhagwat rejected allegations that the RSS is driven by hatred, stating instead that ‘Shuddha Saatvika Prem’ (pure and noble love) is the foundation of the organization’s work. He also expressed confidence in younger generations, describing them as more honest and willing to act on their convictions. Regarding the diaspora, he noted that British Hindus should maintain loyalty to their ‘Karma Bhumi’ (field of duty), which is Britain.

His visit drew protests in London, organized by groups such as the All India United Forum UK. Demonstrators expressed opposition to ‘Hindutva’, characterizing it as an ideology of ethno-nationalism that threatens minority rights and promotes majoritarian politics. While the RSS maintains its mission is centered on social harmony and service, critics described the organization as having authoritarian or majoritarian characteristics.
