Mohan Bhagwat advocates for religious diversity amid reports of minority disenfranchisement in India

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat recently emphasized the importance of diversity during a speech in New York, stating that a Hindu who believes Muslims have no place in India ceases to be a Hindu. Bhagwat asserted that Hindutva must accommodate India’s religious diversity and that all paths lead to the same goal.

However, observers have noted a disconnect between these statements and recent events in India. Reports indicate instances of religious tension, including the alleged attempt to delete Muslim voters from electoral rolls in Jharkhand, the razing of a mosque in Uttar Pradesh, and an FIR filed regarding public prayer.

Political analysts also point to a lack of representation for religious minorities within the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). While the party holds significant numbers in the Lok Sabha and various state assemblies, only two BJP MLAs are Muslim, raising questions regarding the political inclusion of minority communities in the country.
