Moldova airspace violated by unidentified aircraft during Russian attacks on Ukraine

An unidentified aircraft entered the airspace of the Republic of Moldova on the morning of Wednesday, October 7. The Ministry of Defense reported that the object was detected by radar at 08:43 and remained in national airspace for approximately one minute before exiting toward Limanske, Ukraine, at 08:44.

Authorities noted that the incident occurred amidst massive Russian missile and drone attacks targeting Ukraine. Since the beginning of the invasion in February 2022, Moldova has recorded 93 instances of unauthorized airspace violations by missiles and drones.

In response to increasing security risks, Interior Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin announced that Moldova will construct new protection shelters at border crossing points with Ukraine to safeguard border guards and local populations. This comes amid reports that only 11% of the country's civil protection shelters are currently in a state ready to provide life-saving protection.
