Moldova aligns biofuel regulations with EU standards

The Moldovan government has approved a new regulation regarding the verification and certification of biofuels, bioliquids, and biomass fuels. This measure is designed to align the country's energy sector with European Union legislation.

The regulation establishes rules for sustainability verification and requires traceability throughout the entire supply chain. By recognizing voluntary and national certification schemes approved by the European Commission, Moldovan producers and suppliers can utilize EU-recognized certifications without undergoing additional validation procedures within Moldova. This alignment is intended to facilitate easier access to the EU market for Moldovan products and attract further investment in the sector.

Additionally, the framework aims to support the local market by encouraging the use of waste and residues as raw materials for renewable energy production. These steps are part of Moldova's broader energy and decarbonization goals, which include increasing the share of renewable energy in gross final energy consumption to 27% and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 70% by 2030.
