Moldova and Romania announce heating compensation for low-income citizens

Authorities in Moldova and Romania are preparing heating compensation programs for the upcoming cold seasons to assist low-income citizens facing higher energy tariffs.

In Moldova, the President of the Economy, Budget, and Finance Commission, Marcel Spatari, stated that the government intends to increase the number of beneficiaries this year. Compensation amounts are expected to range from a minimum of 500 lei to a maximum of between 800 and 1,000 lei, depending on the energy source. The budget for these compensations is expected to be comparable to last year, with potential increases if energy prices evolve. Applications for support can be submitted starting November 2.

In Romania, heating assistance for the 2026–2027 season will be available to low-income families and individuals. Eligibility is based on net income limits, with monthly support amounts varying by energy source: 250 lei for natural gas, 500 lei for electricity, and 320 lei for wood or other solid fuels. Applicants must submit required documentation, including proof of income and property rights, to their local town hall by the 20th of the month to receive support for that period.
