Moldova and Türkiye target $2 billion in bilateral trade

Moldovan Prime Minister Vasile Tofan has announced an ambitious goal to double bilateral trade with Türkiye, aiming to reach $2 billion within approximately two years. Current trade volumes stand at roughly $1 billion, representing about 5% of Moldova’s GDP.

Tofan noted that approximately 1,200 Turkish companies are already operating in Moldova, contributing to sectors such as road construction, energy, tourism, and medical services. He expressed a desire to attract further investment, particularly in renewable energy, noting that renewable sources now account for over 30% of Moldova’s total energy production.

The Prime Minister suggested that Moldova could serve as a strategic export platform for Turkish manufacturers seeking access to the European Union as the country pursues EU integration. Additionally, he highlighted the Gagauzia region, home to a Turkic-speaking community, as a potential bridge for economic and tourism development between the two nations.
