Moldova announces reforms to teacher training and requirements

The Moldovan Ministry of Education and Research has announced a new framework for teacher training, aimed at being implemented by 2027. Under the proposed changes, future educators will begin mandatory pedagogical practice in their first semester, with sessions scheduled for one day per week.

This practice will be restricted to selected institutions serving as specialized pedagogical bases, where students will be guided by trained and additionally remunerated mentors. The reform also emphasizes closer collaboration between universities and schools through reflection seminars and more applied thesis topics.

Additionally, the new conception proposes making a master's degree mandatory for teachers in primary and gymnasium schools, a requirement previously focused on high school educators. To support these changes, the government has tripled pedagogical scholarships to over 4,200 lei and introduced minimum admission thresholds to ensure higher quality candidates.
