Moldova considers major public sector and minimum wage increases

Moldova is considering several significant adjustments to its national wage structures. According to Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun, a new salary law aims to revise the public sector hierarchy to reduce the gap between the highest and lowest earners.

Key proposals include:

- Leadership Salaries: Significant increases are planned for the President, the President of Parliament, and the Prime Minister, whose salaries have reportedly remained below 20,000 lei for several years.

- Education Sector: Starting January 1, 2027, teacher salaries could increase by 11% to 15%, with some educators potentially seeing total increases of up to 25% through performance bonuses. The long-term goal is to raise teacher pay to 120% of the national average.

- Minimum Wage: Labor unions and employer confederations have proposed raising the national minimum wage to 7,600 lei by January 1, 2027, representing a 20.6% increase from the current 6,300 lei.
