Moldova corruption probe targets ISSPNPC officials

The National Anticorruption Center (CNA) and the Anticorruption Prosecutor's Office (PA) are conducting a criminal investigation into active and passive corruption involving the State Inspectorate for Supervising Non-Food Products and Consumer Protection (ISSPNPC).

The investigation targets two ISSPNPC employees and two economic agents. According to authorities, the officials allegedly demanded and received undue funds from businesses in exchange for failing to conduct mandatory state inspections regarding trade compliance and the quality of industrial products and services. Additionally, the payments were reportedly made to ensure that sanctions were not applied for detected violations.

On September 2, anti-corruption officers executed searches at the homes and offices of the suspects, seizing relevant evidence. The individuals involved are currently being investigated while remaining at liberty as authorities work to identify all parties involved in the scheme.
