Moldova digital public services targeted by cyberattacks

Cyberattacks targeting the digital public services of the Republic of Moldova between October 22 and 25 have left over 80 online services unavailable. Authorities reported that hackers attempted to access the personal data of citizens through approximately 11 million service access requests.

To prevent data leaks, officials temporarily suspended the affected services. While efforts to restore systems are ongoing, authorities have advised citizens and businesses to use offline counters at physical institutions to obtain necessary documents.

Nicoleta Colomeeț, director of the Electronic Government Agency, stated that work is underway to restore services such as criminal records, apostilles, and driver's exam scheduling. Over 50 IT and security specialists have been working continuously to secure and relaunch the systems. Some progress has been made, with over 120 online services for entrepreneurs being safely restored.
