Moldova expands EVO digital identity wallet into banking sector

Moldova has expanded the use of its EVO digital identity wallet into the banking sector. Four major banks—Moldindconbank, FinComBank, EuroCreditBank, and Victoriabank—now accept digital credentials from the government application.

Users can verify their identity by scanning a QR code to share required information digitally. This integration aims to eliminate the need for physical identity documents and reduce manual data entry. The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Moldova eGovernance Agency to align the country’s digital infrastructure with the European digital identity wallet framework.

As an EU candidate country, Moldova is developing EVO to ensure future cross-border interoperability. The platform has already undergone testing for digital identity and driving licenses with partners in several European nations, including France, Hungary, Austria, Belgium, the Netherlands, Croatia, Romania, and Ukraine.
