Moldova fines landowners for failing to control invasive ambrosia

Environmental inspectors from the Inspectorate for Environmental Protection (IPM) in the Moldovan districts of Bălţi, Briceni and Şoldăneşti carried out checks for the invasive weed ambrosia. They identified six landowners who had not taken required measures to eradicate the plant and issued fines ranging from 600 lei to 1,200 lei.

Ambrosia is described as a public‑health and environmental problem because its pollen triggers allergic reactions and its spread harms agricultural land and biodiversity. The owners were warned about proper control methods and the necessity of preventing new infestations.
