Moldovan and Romanian authorities have intensified efforts to control the spread of ambrosia (ragweed), an invasive plant that poses significant public health risks due to its high pollen production.

In Romania, enforcement includes strict deadlines for plant removal. In Timișoara, officials began inspecting sites in July, issuing fines under Law No. 129/2020 that range from 1,000–5,000 lei for individuals and 10,000–20,000 lei for legal entities. Community efforts also emerged in Bucharest, where the City Hall and volunteers launched clean-up operations in Văcărești Natural Park.

In Moldova, the Inspectorate for Environmental Protection has conducted widespread inspections. Following early July reports of illegal logging in Dondușeni, inspectors focused on ambrosia control. In late July, fines of 600–1,200 lei were levied against landowners in Bălți, Briceni, and Şoldăneşti. By early August, additional fines totaling 5,400 lei were issued in Bălți and the Soroca district for non-compliance.

Health officials in both countries have issued warnings throughout the pollination season, which typically spans from mid-July through September and can extend into mid-October. Medical experts advise sensitive individuals to limit outdoor exposure during peak periods to avoid respiratory issues, including asthma attacks and nasal congestion.
