Moldova government boosts gas reserves for right‑bank and Transnistrian regions
On 11 June 2026 the Moldovan government approved a set of measures to strengthen the security of natural‑gas supply across the whole country. The legislation raises the mandatory security stock for the right‑bank of the Dniester by about 6.5 million cubic metres, increasing the total reserve to 56.3 million cubic metres for the 2026‑2027 winter season. The reserve, to be built by Energocom by 1 October, is intended to cover at least ten days of consumption based on the previous winter’s average.
For the Transnistrian region, the responsible supplier (Molodvagaz) must maintain gas stocks equal to at least 15 % of the region’s average annual final‑consumer consumption, calculated over the past five years and excluding gas used for electricity generation. The new law also permits delegating these storage obligations to licensed gas traders from Moldova, the EU or other Energy Community states. Moldova does not have its own storage facilities; strategic reserves are kept in Romania, Ukraine and other EU countries.
