Moldova grants birth and child‑care benefits to families with children born abroad

The National Social Insurance House (CNAS) announced that families in the Republic of Moldova whose children are born abroad are eligible for the one‑time birth allowance and a monthly child‑care allowance, provided the birth is registered and the parents hold valid identity documents. Births can be recorded at the Public Services Agency if the family returns before the child turns one, or at a Moldovan embassy or consulate abroad. Registration is automatic; no separate application or birth certificate submission is required because data are pulled from the State Population Register. The combined allowances amount to 1,000 lei and are paid until the child reaches two years of age. Payments are made to a social bank card or an associated Moldovan bank account; if a card is lacking, funds are transferred to a post office. Failure to collect payments for three consecutive months results in suspension, though a trusted person in Moldova may be authorized by proxy to receive the funds.
