Moldova Health Ministry evaluates Diomid Gherman Neurology Institute

The Ministry of Health of Moldova has completed a formal evaluation of the Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery “Diomid Gherman” for the 2025‑2026 management period. The review examined the institute’s economic‑financial performance, managerial practices, human‑resource management and infrastructure projects.

The audit found administrative, financial and organisational vulnerabilities that have accumulated over several years. In 2025 the institute recorded revenues of about 291.7 million lei and expenses of roughly 295.7 million lei, resulting in a deficit of around 4 million lei. Specific shortcomings were identified in staff‑positioning, reliance on interim contracts, internal control of procurement and asset management, as well as in the planning, execution and documentation of infrastructure works. The report also calls for improved internal communication, decision‑making transparency and greater employee involvement.

Despite these issues, the institute continues to provide medical, surgical, scientific and academic services, and patient safety and treatment continuity remain priorities for the health ministry.
