Moldova implements mandatory academic integrity module for students

Approximately 18,000 first-year undergraduate students in Moldova will complete a mandatory Ethics and Academic Integrity Module this academic year. The course is required for all public and private higher education institutions in the country.

Successful completion of the module is a prerequisite for participating in exam sessions, and students will receive a certificate upon finishing. Developed and implemented by the Ministry of Education and Research, the initiative aims to combat plagiarism, fraud, and corruption within universities while fostering a culture of responsibility.

While previous cohorts participated in physical training, this year's course is available online via the Moodle platform under the ‘Clasa Viitorului’ program. This measure follows the government's approval of a framework regulation on academic integrity, which establishes new rules to prevent academic fraud, including the unauthorized use of artificial intelligence, the purchase of theses, and the falsification of research data.
