Moldova implements new teacher certification regulations

The Ministry of Education and Research in Moldova has implemented new regulations regarding teacher certification, effective September 1, 2026. As part of a broader effort to reduce bureaucracy within the educational system, teaching staff are no longer required to periodically reconfirm their teaching grades.

Under the new rules, the second-degree teaching grade will be maintained indefinitely after two consecutive confirmations, while the first-degree grade will be maintained after a single confirmation. The superior teaching grade remains permanent without further reconfirmation. Additionally, educators with at least 30 years of service or those reaching retirement age can retain their current grade indefinitely upon request.

The updated regulations also introduce electronic filing for first-degree and superior grade applications and recognize internal evaluation activities to prevent the repetition of documentation. Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun stated that these adjustments aim to make the evaluation process more efficient and allow teachers to spend more time with students rather than completing repetitive paperwork.
