Moldova state enterprise executives earn up to eight times more than employees
A parliamentary inquiry in Moldova has revealed significant pay disparities within state-owned enterprises. Findings indicate that executives at several institutions earn up to eight times more than the average employee. For instance, leadership at Chișinău International Airport receives an average of approximately 123,000 lei per month, compared to an institutional average of 29,000 lei. Moldatsa also shows a gap, with management earning 112,000 lei monthly against a 63,000 lei average. Poșta Moldovei addressed these findings, clarifying that while total annual payments for the administrator reached 944,076 lei, this figure includes one-time bonuses, profit rewards, and unused leave compensations, which are not part of the standard monthly salary calculation.
The inquiry also noted that management appointments and remuneration often lack correlation with merit or performance, citing issues with interim positions and formalistic competition processes.
In other economic developments, Moldova's IT sector is projected to reach revenues of one billion euros this year, with Moldova IT Park residents seeing a 20% increase in income during the first half of the year. Additionally, a new agreement between trade unions and employers has set the minimum wage in the real economy to increase to 7,600 lei by January 1, 2027.
Meanwhile, agricultural costs are rising, with mineral fertilizer prices increasing by up to 1,300 lei per ton in recent weeks, impacting farmers ahead of the autumn work period.
