Moldova introduces Romanian language proficiency certification exam
The Ministry of Education and Research, alongside the National Agency for Curriculum and Evaluation, has announced a Romanian language communication competency certification exam for high school students. Due to a high volume of applicants, the examination schedule for the October–December 2026 period has been adjusted to span multiple days.
The assessment evaluates four key competency areas: auditory comprehension, reading comprehension, written expression, and oral expression. The written portion lasts 90 minutes, while the oral exam lasts up to 20 minutes per candidate. Successful students will receive a certificate indicating their score and proficiency level based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
This certification is intended to assist graduates seeking employment in public institutions or other sectors where Romanian language proficiency is mandatory. It is also designed to ensure equal opportunities for students continuing their studies both within Moldova and abroad. Students studying in minority languages may receive an automatic grade of 10 for Romanian language and literature if they hold a certificate demonstrating a B2 level or higher.
