Moldova launches EVO digital identity integration for banking

Moldova’s eGovernance Agency has launched the use of digital identity credentials from the EVO government app within the banking sector. Four banks—Moldindconbank, FinComBank, EuroCreditBank, and Victoriabank—now accept these credentials, allowing customers to verify their identity by scanning a QR code and sharing specific, consent-based information.

This initiative aligns with the European Digital Identity Wallet framework to ensure interoperability and potential future cross-border use. The system aims to replace the need for physical identity documents or photocopies, reducing manual data entry through digital verification.

Since opening integration to organizations on April 1, 2026, the ecosystem has grown to include 30 relying parties at various stages of connection, including the National Bank of Moldova and a major telecommunications operator. The agency expects at least 20 organizations to be operationally integrated by the end of 2026.
