Moldova launches textbook reform training for 250 authors

The Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova is conducting a training program for over 250 textbook authors from August 11-13, 2026. This initiative is part of a national program to certify authors and improve the quality of school textbooks in alignment with a broader national curriculum revision.

The reform aims to make textbooks clearer, more accessible, and better adapted to the needs of students and teachers. Key changes include modernizing content and graphic requirements, increasing the quality weight to 90% in evaluations, and developing digital and interactive resources. The training focuses on best practices for textbook editing, including page organization, age-appropriate fonts, and high-quality imagery to address current issues like overly dense content and unclear language.

Supported by experts from Estonia, the program organizes authors into seven working groups covering various disciplines, including sciences, history, primary education, and multiple languages. According to Galina Rusu, Secretary General of the Ministry, the new textbooks will shift focus from rote memorization toward understanding and practical application, helping students solve concrete problems.
