Romania and Moldova face aerial alerts following unidentified object detections

On September 21, multiple aerial alerts were triggered in Romania and Moldova following the detection of unidentified aerial objects near their borders.

In Romania, the Ministry of National Defence reported that radar systems detected an aerial target approximately 12 kilometers north of Chilia. In response, two F-16 aircraft from Borcea Air Base 86 were scrambled to monitor the situation. An RO-Alert was issued for the population in northern Tulcea county. Authorities confirmed that no incursions into Romanian airspace occurred, and the alert was lifted at 06:14.

Simultaneously, in Moldova, an unidentified aerial object crossed the country's airspace during the night of September 20-21. The object was tracked moving from Ukraine through the Transnistrian segment toward the northern districts of Dondușeni and Briceni before disappearing near Tabani. For security reasons, airspace in northern Moldova was restricted for 24 minutes. While some reports suggested explosions in the Orhei and Călărași districts, the Moldovan Ministry of Defence later denied reports of drone overflights or explosions in those specific areas.

Additionally, Romanian military divers recovered three drone fragments from the Black Sea's Exclusive Economic Zone on September 20. Experts confirmed the fragments posed no explosive risk.
