Moldova Moves to Fill Electoral Law Gap Ahead of Gagauzia Elections
The Moldovan Constitutional Court's ruling on 9 July left a legislative void in the Electoral Code governing elections in the autonomous region of Gagauzia. Former court president Alexandru Tănase said the parliament has several legal options to amend the code and set a clear election procedure.
Former deputy Fiodor Gagauz announced his candidacy for the position of bașcan of Gagauzia, stressing the need for unity, development and respect for the region's autonomy. He said his decision follows consultations with local residents and that the upcoming elections for the governor and the People's Assembly will shape Gagauzia's future.
