Moldova Parliament moves to align chemical regulations with EU standards

The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova has passed a draft law in its first reading to amend the Law on Chemical Substances. The initiative aims to align national legislation with European Union regulations regarding the classification, labeling, and packaging of chemicals.

Presented by Grigore Stratulat, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Environment, the project seeks to ensure that chemical substances and products sold or used in Moldova are managed safely for human health and the environment. Under the new rules, manufacturers and importers will be required to identify the properties and risks of substances they bring to market. Hazardous products must be correctly classified and labeled so that risks and precautions are easily understood.

Additionally, the legislation establishes clearer responsibilities for economic operators. Importers and distributors of hazardous chemical mixtures will be obligated to provide necessary information to the National Agency for Public Health to facilitate emergency management in health situations.
